They lost all the substance that made SR2 feel like an actual story. A lot of it was funny, but it's all junk food. In SR3 though, every big mission just felt like a self contained effort to top the previous one in zaniness. Johnny Gat and Shaundi were very likable characters in SR2, and you really felt like the relationship between them and the protagonist was well done. It's good that this game wants to be the crazy counterpart to GTA's super serious tone, but they went overboard here. I never felt anything for any of the characters in this game, and situations were just happening as self contained WaCkInEsS but not much else. Though that game was also over the top, it was more grounded than this game's complete goofiness so the dramatic story points had more impact. Me ripping enemies to shreds, Oleg flipping cars, and 2 homies with RPGs never ceases to be an entertaining mess.īUT, I'm not sure if I can say it was a better experience than Saints Row 2. I also ended up enjoying the wave based encounters more because of being near invincible. Infinite explosive dual pistols and a super character made dealing with the large enemies less of an annoyance. The game became more enjoyable as missions became more elaborate and the protagonist became more of a tank. Almost maxed out, a few activities left, all stores and properties purchased, lots of clothes bought, vehicles customized, etc. Wrapped up the main missions at around 28 hours.
